Biographical or Historical Information

Jon Polifrone earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in musical composition from Michigan State University in 1958 and 1959, respectively, and his doctorate from Florida State University in 1974. He taught at several institutions -- including Jordan Conservatory in Indianapolis, Indiana State University, and the University of Nebraska, and Virginia Tech until his retirement in 2002. His true passion was composing contemporary classical pieces, four of which were written for the principal cellist with the Omaha Symphony and won him a Pulitzer Prize nomination in the late 1970s.
