The Vice President for University Advancement Records consists of memoranda, outgoing and received correspondence, personnel files, committee minutes, pamphlets, presentations, court files, newspaper clippings, surveys, newsletters, and an audio reel. The Vice President for University Advancement was the office to which the Indiana State University Foundation, Alumni Affairs, University Development, and the University Publications Office reported. This office no longer exists on Indiana State University’s campus. The collection is organized into the following series:
The Administration Records series consists of personnel files from Alumni Affairs, the Indiana State University Foundation, Placement Office, and Development and Public Affairs. Also in this collection are alumni files including names of committee members and alumni fundraising efforts. There are also numerous documents from the Indiana State University Foundation including reports on scholarship funds, expense reports, budgets, Foundation board minutes as well as a list of board members and the board’s by-laws and articles of corporation. This series also contains information on campus unrest and security from 1970 including policies for administrators to follow in case of a student sit-in or bomb threat.
Other topics covered in the series include but are not limited to requests for funding for projects and development, public relations documents concerning events on Indiana State University’s campus, and documents such as the President’s State of the University address and Indiana State University’s Academic Master Plan from July 1971. The Wayne Schomer, who was Vice President of University Advancement (circa 1968-1980), subseries contains his files during his service as Vice President of Advancement including documents on personnel, campus unrest, fundraising, alumni affairs, and correspondence with other members of the faculty and staff of Indiana State University.
The Staff Personnel Files contains the personnel records of the office’s staff from 1981 to 1993. These records cover both paid staff and student scholarship workers. Payroll notification forms are included with hiring or termination information including pay rate and reason for termination. Handwritten time sheets of student workers are also included in these payroll records. Also in these records are letters of thanks for staff member’s service in the office and letters of appointment of staff to different committees.
The General Subject records series covers records created by the Vice President for University Advancement from 1981 to 1991. These records are organized alphabetically from AA to WO by subject. Records include a variety of subjects pertaining to the public representation of Indiana State University to the community, the development of the campus, and the fund raising for both the development of Indiana State University and scholarships for its students.
Items of interest in this series to researchers include President Landini’s correspondence incoming and outgoing concerning the Advancement Office from 1977 to 1990, President Landini’s newsletters to Indiana State University staff and faculty, information over the memorial services for Phyllis Landini, the president’s wife, the Hulman Memorial Student Union project including the closing of Chestnut Street and 6 ½ Street, documents pertaining to the presidential search that ended in the election of Dr. John W Moore and the court documents from the lawsuit connected to this presidential search, documents and press releases connected to Indiana State University’s 125th anniversary, the independence of University of Southern Indiana from Indiana State University, the correspondence of Vice President of Advancement Orin Dahl (1981-1989), Indiana State University Foundation budgets and financial records, and Athletic Budgets.
